Measuring a window in a new building

Use measuring tape

Take measurements of the clear opening of the window. Remember that measurements must be given in millimeters.

Measure width and height

Measure the width and height in three places. If dimensions are different, the smallest value should be taken into account.

Do the calculations

Subtract 30 mm from the width of the window and subtract 55 mm from the height.
x – 30 mm = width
y – 55 mm = height

Measuring a window in old buildings can be more problematic. Uneven walls, and poorly done renovation work in the past make the measurement more difficult. How to measure windows in old buildings?

Use measuring tape

Take measurements of the hole in positions with a jamb. Remember that measurements must be given in millimeters.

Measure width and height

Measure the width and height in three places. If the dimensions are different, the smallest value should be taken into account.

Do the calculations

Add 80 mm to the width and 40 mm to the height of the window.
x + 80 mm = width
40 mm + y = height
